**Identity Property of Addition**

Assume that a is a real number, the **Identity Property of Addition** states that the sum of a and 0 is equal to a where 0 is known as the **Additive Identity**. We can rephrase this property by saying that any number that is added to 0 is equal to the number itself.

This addition property can be summarized in equation as a + 0 = a which is equivalent to 0 + a = a.
